Description
MOTS-c is a 16-residue mitochondrial-derived peptide produced synthetically to match the sequence encoded within the 12S rRNA region of mitochondrial DNA. The molecule belongs to a small but growing family of peptides whose discovery has reframed how researchers think about cellular communication between mitochondria and the nucleus.
The peptide is studied for its effects on the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) pathway, a central energy sensor that responds to changes in cellular ATP and AMP levels. In addition to AMPK-related activity, MOTS-c has been examined in research models of glucose metabolism, insulin signalling, and the regulation of mitochondrial respiratory function.
Typical research applications:
- In-vitro AMPK activation and downstream phosphorylation assays
- Cellular glucose uptake studies in myocytes, hepatocytes, and adipocytes
- Comparative work alongside humanin and other mitochondrial-derived peptides
- Investigation of mitochondrial-nuclear retrograde signalling pathways
For research and laboratory use only. Not for human or animal consumption. Purchasers must be at least 18 years of age.
